The main stairway for Mid-century modern Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College required improvements to upgrade and meet current building codes.

Highly visible from the exterior and main campus walkway, the custom designed guardrail lets light animate the space as a diaphanous aluminum veil of random and playful circles and ovals. As an extension of the window frames and metalwork throughout the building, it is made of dark bronze anodized aluminum plates.

Original white oak cap guardrails and handrails are present throughout the building. The new rails - matching in material and dimensions, but milled to a custom code compliant profile - wrap up and around the stairway to address code requirements and tie the composition together.
